This is a story about a teenage girl, Katniss, who is living in a dystopia. One day she goes out to find her friend so they can go hunting before the reaping because her family relies on her ever since her dad died in a mining explosion. A reaping is a selection of a boy and a girl age 12-18 to fight in the annual Hunger Games from 12 districts. Those who are chosen, are sent to an arena to fight until one tribute stands. The girls sister, Prim, name was called for the games but Katniss volunteers to take her place. The boy chosen was the son of a baker, Peeta, who saved her life one day by giving her a loaf of bread. After they are selected, they are sent to the capitol to train for the games. After their training is complete, they are thrown into the arena to fight for their lives.
