The Three Pigs
Author: David Wiesner
Medal: Caldecott Medal
Genre: Traditional Fiction
Grades: K-2
In the beginning three pigs decide to build a house. However, all of them do not want to work to build the house. Two of the three pigs loved to play, and one is very responsible. He told the two pigs to build a house that is strong, in case of the wolf. The first and laziest built his house out of straw. The second pig who wasn't responsible, made his house out of sticks because it was easier and faster. The third pig built his house out of bricks but it took him the longest. When the wolf shows up, he blows the first pig right out of the story frame. This happens to each pig, but instead of the pigs being eaten they escape into other fairy tales to confuse the wolf.
